1954 Flxible Visicoach
Location: Columbus, OH 43206
Description:
This 1954 Flxible Visicoach was one of ten buses purchased by the Santa Fe Railroad Company and taken to the Grand Canyon for its first 27 years. It changed hands twice and ended up being converted to a full scale RV in 1983 by Lyn Coach Works in Greensboro, North Carolina (original paperwork available). Since then it has been remarkably maintained throughout and stored indoors full time.
Since being purchased in 2014, it has had a completely new re-power including a crated, brand new Cummins ISC 8.3L Turbo Diesel engine which was paired with a new Allison 3066 Automatic transmission (now with cruise control as well). A Silver Leaf electronics unit that provides instantaneous speed, engine and transmission temps, mpg, video capabilities, etc was also installed. A PacBrake greatly reduces wear and tear on the air brakes. A custom air scoop was fabricated in 2016 and the front brakes and kingpins were also replaced that year. A custom trailer hitch and low profile a/c unit have also been added within the past two years.
This bus conversion is remarkable in that it has the power of a brand new rig (and a lot of power at that – no worries going through mountains on the East or West coast!) AND it has the interior of a professional vintage bus conversion ~ custom upholstery, stretched vinyl ceiling, and plenty of fine detail to speak to the level of craftsmanship. The appliances all work ~ 3 burner propane stove fueled by two 30 gallon propane tanks, 30K BTU gas furnace, microwave, fridge and freezer (new in 2014), shower and bathroom.
